Japanese idol group 22/7 to appear at Crunchyroll Expo 2019

Crunchyroll Expo have revealed that Japanese idol group 22/7 will be heading their way.

In a collaboration between Yasushi Akimoto, Aniplex, and Sony Music Records, 22/7 is a project where idols leap from the screen into the real world. 11 singers portray the characters in both animation form and in real life. Last month, an anime adaptation about the group was announced for a January 2020 debut. Arriving to the convention are Sally Amaki (Sakura Fujima), Ruri Umino (Jun Toda), and Kanae Shirosawa (Akane Maruyama). More information on 22/7 can be found here.

J-rock band Flow to perform at Crunchyroll Expo 2019

The folks behind Crunchyroll Expo have revealed today that Japanese rock group Flow will perform at the convention.

Forming in 1998, the band, which includes brothers Kōshi and Take Asakawa, are very familiar with anime fans. Numerous Flow songs have been used in popular anime series such as Naruto, The Seven Deadly Sins, and Samurai Flamenco. In April, the band released their 11th studio album Tribalythm.

The band’s concert will take place on Friday, August 30. Tickets for this event will go on sale Monday, July 15. You’ll need both your Crunchyroll Expo badge and concert ticket to enter. Flow will also have a panel and autograph session.

J-pop group MADKID announced for Crunchyroll Expo 2019

Rising J-pop group MADKID will appear at this year’s Crunchyroll Expo.

Announced today, the group are part of a slew of guests coming from the anime series The Rising of the Shield Hero. The band performed the two opening themes for the show: “Rise” and “Faith.” MADKID recently released their debut studio album Circus, which includes English versions of “Rise” and “Faith.”

Other guests from the anime include voice actress Sarah Emi Bridcutt, character designer Masahiro Suwa, music composer Kevin Penkin, and show producer Junichiro Tamura.

Tickets for Crunchyroll Expo are on sale right now. The event takes place from August 30 through September 1 inside the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California.
