Scrabble is now playable on the Internet
Iconic word game Scrabble is celebrating National Scrabble Day by revealing a new way to play the game.
Announced today, Scrabble is now available to play on the web thanks to developers Scopley. Players can head here to play the game with a friend, with a random person online, or against the CPU. A tournament mode is currently in development. Previously, Scrabble was available to play on Facebook and Pogo. This version of Scrabble adds a few more features with the aforementioned tournaments, a free online word finder, a dictionary, and message boards.
Scrabble’s move to web comes two years after the release of Scrabble GO on mobile phones. Also developed by Scopely, Scrabble GO has become the most popular word game in the mobile phone market.
Since its release in 1938, Scrabble has become the subject of documentaries and books, including Merriam-Webster's The Official Scrabble Player's Dictionary. In 2004, Scrabble was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame.
