Samantha Savage Smith releases new single "Fake Nice"
Canadian indie-pop artist Samantha Savage Smith has unveiled the title track to their forthcoming album Fake Nice today.
“Fake Nice” arrives with a music video directed by Heather Saitz. Canadian drag performer Queen Valerie Hunt is featured in the starring role of the visual, which can be seen below. Smith said this about working on the video:
“[I] was inspired by watching one of my favourite Calgary drag performers, Queen Valerie Hunt, at a drag night I used to frequent called Queers for Beers (cute, right?!). Her energy and charisma are a force to be reckoned with, and I just really dug her thrifty, mod/punk aesthetic. She's garnered a huge following in recent years, and also came second in a new drag reality series “Call Me Mother”. But luckily, despite her becoming the rising star that she is, Val was still more than down to be a part of the project.
The music is supposed to be this cheeky play on the ebbs and flows of being emotionally erratic and eventually breaking down into a state of psychosis - that's the frantic instrumental bit, where I’d say we had the most fun shooting! Gotta love a strobe and a bad ass performer. Heather Saitz & myself fondly call this part of the video the "descent into madness”. But BLAM! The balloon pops and you come right back to reality. Perspective finally rears its head. Acknowledging that while you might be sick, you still have a whole lot of love to give, and are still able to receive love in return."
“Fake Nice” is available on digital services right now. Pre-orders for the album, which arrives on April 22 via Saved By Vinyl, can be made here. Fake Nice will be the follow-up to Smith’s 2015 sophomore studio album Fine Lines.
Smith will be touring the U.K. alongside Garden Centre. Tour dates can be seen below. Tickets are on sale to the general public right now.
