The five best songs from January 2021
With the start of the new year, many people eagerly awaited what new music will arrive. Whether it’s from a veteran in the scene or a newcomer, having something new to throw on a playlist is always a good thing. In no particular order, here are five tracks that rocked January.
Moodring - "Show Me The Real You"
Featuring members of Attila, Culture Killer, and Cat Company, Moodring greeted 2021 with their debut single "Show Me The Real You." With strong comparisons to Deftones, the track is an early contender for song of the year. The track stems from their forthcoming debut EP showmetherealyou, which is slated to arrive on March 5. Pre-orders can be made here.
Genghis Tron - "Dream Weapon"
Metal gurus Genghis Tron made their grand return with a heavy hitter in "Dream Weapon." The five-and-a-half minute scorcher marks the debut of vocalist Tony Wolski and Sumac/Baptists drummer Nick Yacyshyn, who feel right at home for longtime fans. The tune is the title track of their forthcoming studio album, which is set to be released on March 26. Pre-orders are live here.
Mint Julep - "Black Maps"
Dream-pop duo Mint Julep continue to evoke heavenly bliss with their song "Black Maps." The number finds the duo breaking from structured norms to something a bit more expressive. The track comes from the duo's upcoming studio album In a Deep & Dreamless Sleep, which will be released on March 19 via Western Vinyl. Pre-orders can be made here.
Bernice - "It's Me, Robin"
Experimental jazz-pop group Bernice asks the burning question "Who are you?" on their track "It's Me, Robin." The song comes from their upcoming album Eau de Bonjourno, which arrives on March 5 via Telephone Explosion Records/Figureight Records. Pre-orders can be grabbed here.
AFI - Escape From Los Angeles
Unrelated to the '90s John Carpenter movie, AFI's "Escape From Los Angeles" is a delight for those mesmerized by their post-punk offerings in The Blood Album. The song, along with "Twisted Tongues," will hold fans over until the release of AFI's 11th studio album later this year.
