Spin Doctors will unveil their first studio album in 12 years this spring.

Announced today, Face Full of Cake will be released on April 11 via Capitol Records. The first single from the record titled “Still A Gorilla” comes with a music video, which can be seen here.

Vocalist Chris Barron said this about the new song:

“‘Still A Gorilla’ is a heavy-duty track about what it is to be human. [Drummer] Aaron [Comess] had that piece of music around for quite a long time, and whenever he and I sat down to try and write some lyrics to it, it just never quite came together.”

While they had trouble working on the new song, the band found inspiration via Robyn’s popular track “Konichiwa B**ches.” Barron said:

“Aaron was like, ‘A vibe like this would be cool,’ and the humor of that song gave me the entree into the song, so I just sat down and wrote that in an hour.”

Spin Doctors will have a record release show on April 12 at Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn. Presales for the show will go live next Monday (January 20) while tickets will go on sale to the general public next Friday (January 24).

Spin Doctors will have a handful of festival appearances as well as a four-night stint at Egyptian Theatre in Park City, Utah. Tickets for previously announced shows are on sale to the general public right now here.
