Overwatch fans now know when they can say goodbye to the popular game before its sequel arrives.

Announced today on Eurogamer, Overwatch will shut down on October 2, which is days before Overwatch 2’s launch on October 4. Overwatch commercial lead Jon Spector said this to Eurogamer’s Robert Purchese:

"So roughly a day before Overwatch 2 launches, we're going to be taking down the Overwatch 1 servers. So that means, as a practical point, that October 2nd really is the last day to go in and play Overwatch 1. And then it's a 27-hour downtime that we're planning in order to get the Overwatch 2 server stood up and running.”

Players with Overwatch installed will get the option to upgrade to Overwatch 2 before its official launch.

Overwatch 2 will be available as a free-to-play title on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
