Lupin The 3rd VS Cat's Eye crossover anime announced for Amazon Prime Video
Two long-running anime series will collide in one special event next year.
Announced yesterday, Lupin III and Cat's Eye will join forces for the crossover anime film titled Lupin III VS Cat's Eye. The film will air exclusively worldwide on Amazon Prime Video next year. The film is being co-directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, who previously worked together on the Godzilla and Knights of Sidonia anime. For this film, voice talent Kanichi Kurita will reprise their role of Lupin III while Keiko Toda will do the same as Hitomi Kisugi.
In a statement, Cat’s Eye manga author Tsukasa Hojo said:
“Lupin III is a work by a senior who I have been reading since I was a junior high school student. I wonder what kind of reaction Monkey Punch would have had if he had been asked about this collaboration? I can't help but think.
During my lifetime, we had the opportunity to meet at a bar several times, but we never talked about manga with each other. At one point, he told me that there was something he wanted to ask someone else to do, and he died just before I could ask for it. I don't think that was really the story of this collaboration, but I am happy to be able to work with you this time with a strange connection.
I sincerely hope that Dr. Monkey Punch will also be pleased.”
This film will arrive to help celebrate the anniversaries of both franchises. Lupin the 3rd, whose anime series is celebrating its 50th anniversary, has spawned a slew of video games, stage plays, and live-action films. HIDIVE recently announced plans to air Lupin the 3rd Part III starting this weekend.
The Cat’s Eye manga is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Written and illustrated by Tsukasa Hojo, the series spawned an anime series, a TV film, and a theatrical film. In 2010, a remake of the manga series, which was written by Sakura Nakameguro with illustrations from Shin Asai, was released through Monthly Comic Zenon.
