Canadian singer-songwriter Annabel Gutherz releases cover of David Bowie's "Life on Mars"
Canadian singer-songwriter Annabel Gutherz has unveiled their cover of David Bowie's "Life on Mars" today.
The orchestral-pop cover, which can be heard below, coincides with the recent release of the Bowie documentary Moonage Daydream. “Life on Mars” originally appeared on Bowie’s 1971 album Hunky Dory. Following Bowie’s death in 2016, the song became a popular tribute song to the singer.
Gutherz said this about the cover:
“My interpretation of the rich narrative conveyed through Bowie's abstract and surreal lyricism is one of sadness, longing, and hope, with a commentary about society and the media that still rings true today. I love the emotional dimensionality of the story being told, the melody, the production... everything! I hope to honor Bowie, one of the most prolific and brilliant artists of our time, and his lasting legacy with this cover.”
Annabel Gutherz’s cover of David Bowie's "Life on Mars" is available on digital services right now. Last year, Gutherz released their debut album Loose Ends.
