Anathema to go on indefinite hiatus

Beloved prog rock group Anathema have announced plans to go on an indefinite hiatus.

The announcement was revealed today via Facebook:

“Dear Anathema Family,

This year is one like no other.

We’ve all – everyone of you included, faced unpredictable challenges, which impacted both our professional and personal situations. In the hardest of times, events over this year have left us with no option but to go on an indefinite hiatus. As individuals, it is now time to pursue other paths in life.

We are beyond grateful for everyone’s support over the years. There is no end to the love and respect we have for our fans for giving us the best years of our lives. The generosity you all showed following the unexpected cancellation of our tour will always stay with us.

We could never have anticipated how this year would turn out.

Many, Many thanks. Anathema”

Anathema’s last studio album was 2017’s The Optimist. The group were originally planning on touring in support of We’re Here Because We’re Here’s 10-year anniversary. Instead of touring, the band released special “Lockdown” versions of “Thin Air,” “Summernight Horizon,” “Everything,” and “Angels Walk Among Us.” “These lockdown versions are completely new recordings. The extraordinary circumstances of the past couple of months have afforded me the time and space to see these songs under a different light. All of them are vastly different from the original versions,” Anathema co-founder Vincent Cavanagh said in a statement.
