The Callisto Protocol announced as Epic Games Store's next free game
Epic Games Store has been delivering a slew of weekly free games, and next week, one recent survival horror game will be available.
Revealed today, The Callisto Protocol will be available for free on the service from August 22 through August 29 alongside Gigantic: Rampage Edition. Released in 2022, The Callisto Protocol is considered the spiritual successor of the popular Dead Space series. The game was originally slated to be part of the PUBG: Battlegrounds universe before becoming its own thing. The Callisto Protocol director Glen Schofield gained backlash online after proudly celebrating putting the game’s staff through crunch; they quickly apologized.
A synopsis for The Callisto Protocol reads:
In this narrative-driven, third-person survival horror game set 300 years in the future, the player will take on the role of Jacob Lee – a victim of fate thrown into Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary located on Jupiter's moon, Callisto. When inmates begin to transform into monstrous creatures, the prison is thrown into chaos. To survive, Jacob must battle his way to safety to escape Black Iron Prison, while uncovering the dark and disturbing secrets buried beneath the surface of Callisto.
