2022 saw things coming back to normal in a way with a slew of video games dropping for players of all kinds. If you were looking for something to play with friends or trying to dive into a vast single-player experience, there was something for you around the corner. From mobile games to console titles, we look at 10 of the best games to be unveiled in 2022.
10) FPS Chess
While FPS Chess is a student made game, its concept is one of the best in years. Mixing chess and FPS gameplay is something many people wouldn't think would work, but FPS Chess is a fantastic experience reminiscent of Chess Kombat from Mortal Kombat Deception. Let's hope these developers have a bright future in game development.
9) Chinatown Detective Agency
Point-and-click title Chinatown Detective Agency is easily one of the most puzzling games to arrive in 2022. In a cyberpunk version of Singapore, players must take on a slew of cases as the new private investigator in town. While taking on these cases, however, they being to unearth a slew of intriguing conspiracies. It's one of those games where you have to look stuff up on your phone to solve some of the puzzles. This is a game that will probably make you put it down for a bit if you're not willing to do research.
8) WWE 2K22
Following the dreadful reaction to WWE 2K20, developer Visual Concepts and publisher 2K Games decided to take a break to see what went wrong. While people were a bit skeptical about WWE 2K22, the game delivered big time with upgraded physics and an easy-to-use control scheme. Unfortunately, the amount of wrestlers being released before the game means its roster is severely outdated, but with the ability to bring in custom arenas such as AEW Dynamite, it makes it easier to update things as players see fit.
7) Multiversus
While there's been a slew of Smash-like games over the years, WB Games' Multiversus was one of the most anticipated titles of 2022 for a good reason. The thought of Bugs Bunny beating down Superman intrigued a slew of players worldwide. When it officially dropped, players were enamored with how well done the product turned out. Aside from remixes of noticeable music, the game came out swinging with voice acting, which is something a certain Nickelodeon game failed to do for a lengthy period of time.
6) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is everything fans of the old school TMNT games (and beat-em'up games in general) wanted: side-scrolling Turtle action with all of the pizza toppings you can think of. Being able to play couch and online co-op with up to six people means always having memorable times with the crew wherever you are. Aside from the gameplay, Shredder's Revenge easily has one of the best video game soundtracks of the year with Mike Patton and Mega Ran dropping vocals over composer Tee Lopes' nostalgia-driven melodies.
5) Trombone Champ
The trombone has been one of the most overlooked instruments for a long time. Trombonists such as Glenn Miller, Fred Wesley, and Melba Liston have been showcasing their skills on stages worldwide. Fortunately, Holy Wow Studios decided to give the instrument the respect it deserves with Trombone Champ. Much like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, players can use their trombone to play a slew of iconic musical pieces such as "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and "Also sprach Zarathustra." As expected, a slew of knockoffs are already making their way to the digital marketplace, but none of them will ever match the sheer excitement of tootin' with your trusty trombone in this magnificent game.
4) Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Pokémon Legends: Arceus offered a different experience for longtime Pokémon players. Instead of trying to become champion, players are task with the job of completing their Pokedex. Simply catching Pokémon won't work here; you'll have to do special tasks such as watch them fight or use a certain move a select number of times in order to complete their entry.
3) Marvel Snap
Digital card games are a dime a dozen nowadays, but Marvel Snap stands out with its fast gameplay mechanics. With three lands present, players must take over two to become victorious. Each land comes with its own unique perk, which range from certain card being blocked to only allowing one card from each side. As of this writing, 170 characters from the Marvel Universe are present in the game with more coming soon.
2) Elden Ring
When you have Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin joining forces, you can bet the finished product will be an absolute masterpiece. Elden Ring was able to bring in longtime Souls fans and people who've never touched a Souls game in their life. Aside from the punishing gameplay, Elden Ring delivering a grand score thanks to composers Tsukasa Saitoh, Shoi Miyazawa, Tai Tomisawa, Yuka Kitamura, and Yoshimi Kudo.
1) Vampire Survivors
For the low price of $5, Vampire Survivors captivated a massive audience with its simplistic yet addictive bullet hell madness. Social media has helped make the game a must-play for people with clips showcasing an often-outrageous amount of colors and increasing numbers on the screen. Despite having no actual vampires in the game, Vampire Survivors will still bring people in people looking to simply “become the bullet hell” for a few minutes.
