Sunny Day Real Estate release new song "Novum Vetus," announce 'Diary' 30th anniversary tour

Beloved emo band Sunny Day Real Estate have given fans their first new song in 10 years today.

The new song "Novum Vetus” stems from the band’s forthcoming release Diary - Live at London Bridge Studio, which finds the band re-recording their influential album Diary. The new release will arrive on May 3; pre-orders are live right now here.

The band will celebrate Diary’s 30th anniversary with a trek across the country, which will be spread out from March through October. Tour dates can be seen below. Tickets will go on sale to the general public tomorrow (January 26) at 10 a.m. local time here.

Sunny Day Real Estate said this about Diary’s celebration as well as their new single:

This year is the 30th anniversary of our first record, Diary! We wanted to do something special to celebrate these songs that have brought us so much over the years. Not only are we excited to announce a US tour of the record in its entirety, we thought it would be fun to re-record the full album live in-studio as a better representation of how we play the songs now as we’ve evolved as musicians. Recorded at London Bridge Studio in Seattle. We couldn’t be happier with the result of how it turned out. Nothing can touch the specialness of our original recording, but this recording in so many ways has its own power and magic that we hope you will enjoy. And for an added bonus we recorded a new song ‘Novum Vetus’. An idea originally conceived around 1998 for ‘How it Feels To Be Something On’, but completed and restructured for this new recording. This Friday the 26th, you can buy tickets for the tour, hear/download the song on all DSPs and pre-order the album from our site. Thank you for listening all of these years!

Love, Sunny Day Real Estate
