Queens-based musician STEFA* has delivered another taste of their debut album debut album Born With An Extra Rib.

Today, the artist dropped their new single "differ3nt today" with an accompanying music video directed by the artist (which can be seen here). STEFA* said this about the new song and visual:

“I was inspired by ‘90s music listening to this, like ‘90s alt-rock/pop – specifically with this invitation for the audience to sing along with me so I put in those ‘heys’ as this come to spirit moment. I wanted this to feel like an anthem for people – for everyone – not just for trans people, not just for non-binary people, not just for queer people. We all change so often and we have a right to change, so I wanted it to be an invitation for people to ask these same questions.

The video is taken from four years of footage - I started filming with this small camcorder in 2020 and so a lot of the video is of friends, of community, a lot of different places I’ve been, nature, myself in different spaces. Some of it’s been uncomfortable – watching it back and really seeing how I’ve changed so much physically in appearance – also my friend groups and people around me have changed a lot too, and so going back into those archives has been really emotional and intense at times. To witness myself being really silly – flirting and filming people – it’s also been full of joy as well. It feels like a personal diary that I’m sharing with the world. I’m calling it a T4T love tapestry and I really just want to capture trans love and trans friendship and trans joy in these images.”

Pre-orders for Born With An Extra Rib, which arrives on June 28 via Figure & Ground, as well as a special limited edition 7-inch featuring the tracks "Costillas" and "differ3nt today" can be made here.

On June 1, STEFA* will perform at Brooklyn Museum's First Saturdays, which showcases queer and trans artists, collectives, writers, and musicians. More information about the event can be found here.
