When we last saw Bocchi and Co. in episode five of Bocchi The Rock!, they wanted to showcase their new song at Starry. Unfortunately, they were hit with a roadblock in the form of club manager Seika, who insisted they auditioned for a chance to play there again. With the right amount of practice, however, they managed to wow Seika, who gave them a spot at the next show. There's one catch, though: each member had to hit the five-ticket quota, and Bocchi was unsure if they would do it. Our review of episode five can be read here. The episode begins with Bocchi trying to determine who'll gain those five tickets. While worrying about the fifth ticket, Bocchi runs into an intoxicated character, who had a lot in common with Bocchi. The intriguing character is a bassist for a local band, and they got too much into a drunken frenzy at an afterparty.

While Bocchi had some concerns about this character, the bassist managed to aid Bocchi in more ways than one. The pair decided to have a street concert to promote Kessoku Band's forthcoming show at Starry. As expected, Bocchi was a bit scared at first. Not only were they playing an impromptu outdoors concert but they were doing it without the other members of Kessoku Band backing them. While strumming on the guitar, they noticed their bassist friend managing to play along with zero hesitation. This led Bocchi to question their skills again before deciding to play harder without worrying about slipping up.

After the performance, Bocchi was able to sell tickets to a pair of onlookers as well as their new bassist friend. Throughout all this, the remaining members of Kessoku Band were concerned about Bocchi's whereabouts. While Bocchi stated that they sold their tickets, the rest of the band were certain they were lying.

he theme for this episode dealt with misconception. Throughout the show, Bocchi's over-the-top anxiety led them to believe people wanted nothing to do with them. Before playing, the bassist told Bocchi, "You're not in combat with the people in front of you. Don't get it twisted who your enemies are." While performing, Bocchi realized they never had enemies from the start.

The episode also dealt with fear. Bocchi's first performance with Kessoku Band led to them playing in a cardboard box. For this outdoors gig, they were stuck with having people watch them rock out without any sort of cardboard covering. While it was a small group of people watching, it let Bocchi face their fear of performing in a public setting.

As someone in the music industry, the impromptu concert is always something I've run across multiple times whether it's in an NYC subway or in a park in DTLA. Some musicians do it to get some extra change (a.k.a. busking) or to promote an upcoming event like Bocchi did. Others simply do it because they want to spread their music to as many people as possible. For a few, it takes one viral video to open a slew of doors. NYC brass house act Too Many Zooz started out busking in the subways before playing with Beyonce and having their music used in films and commercials. Mason Ramsey famously sang in the middle of a Walmart before getting signed to Atlantic Records and performing in front of thousands of people at Coachella.

Another takeaway from this episode is Bocchi's new friendship. Musicians make friends with each other all the time. Whether they played together on tour or they simply ran into each other at an afterparty, the camaraderie between musicians is its own unique thing. For Bocchi, making a friend outside of Kessoku Band is a huge step in stepping out of their shell.
