Pokémon Stadium comes to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack next week

After months of waiting, Nintendo Switch Online members finally know when Pokémon Stadium arrives on the service.

Announced today, the game will make its way to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on April 12. An announcement trailer can be seen below.

Released in North America in 2000, Pokémon Stadium allowed Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow owners to have 3-D battles against their friends or the CPU on the Nintendo 64 with their own team of Pokémon. Aside from battles, the title offered a handful of exciting minigames, including Ekans' Hoop Hurl, Sushi Go-Round, and Run, Rattata, Run. The title became one of the biggest selling games on the Nintendo 64 with 5.4 million copies sold worldwide.

A sequel titled Pokémon Stadium 2 was released to North American audiences in 2001. Pokémon Stadium 2 is also slated to arrive on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service later this year. While there hasn’t been a Pokémon Stadium game in over 20 years, the legacy is still kept alive thanks to the Pokémon Stadium stage in the Super Smash Bros. franchise.

Pokémon is still going strong with last year’s releases of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which sold over 20 million copies combined. A two-part DLC pack titled The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is slated to be released this year: The Teal Mask comes this fall while The Indigo Disk comes this winter.

A synopsis for The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero reads:

Even more Pokémon, places, and stories await in this 2-part DLC for the Pokémon Violet game! In Part 1: The Teal Mask, join a special school trip to the land of Kitakami. In Part 2: The Indigo Disk, study abroad at Blueberry Academy! Encounter the newly-discovered Legendary Pokémon Ogerpon and Terapagos as you broaden your horizons beyond Uva Academy and explore even more of the Pokémon world.

Both parts will bring an additional 230+ Pokémon that didn’t make the final cut for Scarlet and Violet. The DLC pack is available to purchase right now for $34.99 here.
