Pilot for cancelled '90s live-action Sailor Moon show (Saban Moon) has been released

One of the most sought-after pilot episodes has been discovered.

YouTuber Ray Mona has been on the hunt for the pilot of the ‘90s live-action Sailor Moon show (known as Saban Moon to many), and they chronicled this journey with their documentary The Western World Of Sailor Moon. Today, the content creator has delivered the pilot for everyone to see.

Part two of The Western World Of Sailor Moon continues their hunt for the elusive pilot. The journey, which can be seen below, finds Ray Mona unearthing the cast of the show while having a discussion with Toon Makers founder Rocky Solotoff and producer Steven Wilzbach about working on the pilot. If you want to watch the pilot below, it begins at the 1:43:45 mark, but it’s highly suggested to watch the full 2 hour and seven-minute documentary to get a stronger look behind the show.

The live-action Sailor Moon show was originally slated to arrive in the United States instead of the popular anime series. The live-action adaptation was shelved before Bandai decided to release the anime in its dubbed form with help from animation company DiC Entertainment. Promotional video of the cancelled show was leaked online, which sparked fans wanting the pilot to get released.

Despite being nicknamed Saban Moon, Saban didn’t have anything to do with the program. Power Rangers producers Renaissance Atlantic, who handled the live-action segments, worked with Toon Makers on the show.
