Muunie releases new single "Fire"

Los Angeles pop artist Muunie unveiled their new single “Fire” yesterday.

“Fire” arrives with a music video directed by Morgan Beard, which can be seen below. The track is the opening cut from Muunie’s upcoming debut EP Ele.mental. The artist said this about the new song:

“Fire describes the self-destructive force that another person can be in our lives. That feeling of craving that comes from chemical dependence and makes us drop our internal compass in pursuit of it again and again. Like a moth to a flame, we keep coming back in spite of our better judgement. We all have that self-destructive part of ourselves that wants to be consumed by something completely, even if it kills us. In my life, I’ve pursued romantic relationships with this level of intensity and disregard for my own needs and it wasn’t until they ended that I realized I had lost myself in the process and become fixated on merging with another, thinking that that would save me somehow. The repeating line that captures it is “nothing matters.” We get tunnel vision and behave as if this other thing is the only thing we need. And for me, that’s led to me abandoning myself and, whether I was aware of it or not, reinforced the idea that I didn’t matter.”

Releasing on May 27, Ele.mental is inspired Munnie’s work as a professional life coach. Each song on the four-track release is named after one of the four elements. Munnie said this about their forthcoming release:

“I really wanted to create a unique sonic and emotional palette for each song that captured the essence of the element, but also weave them together into a cohesive, continuous circle, like nature itself. The elements are also metaphors for human emotion and the “seasons'' we pass through. Fire is fall, change, transformation, spark. Water is winter, death, sadness, grief, letting go. Earth is spring, renewal, rebirth, growth. And Air is summer, freedom, sweetness, blossoming.

Ele.mental traces my own growth as an individual and an artist. It’s a narrative of personal transformation that is so close to my heart. It tells the story of a toxic relationship ending, being left to grieve, discovering the power in vulnerability and communion with self, and realizing that another person can’t complete you and the key to freedom and joy is finding it within yourself. Although the story arc centers on a romantic relationship, I wrote it with all types of relationships in mind. It could apply to a parent, a friend, a substance, a behavior, anything.”

“Fire” is available on digital services right now.
