Alt-country singer Holly Macve has dropped another new tune today.

The track “Daddy’s Gone” comes equipped with a music video directed by Macve, which you can see below. When it comes to the new single/video, the artist said:

“I dug out some 90’s VHS family footage of my first home in Galway, Ireland. I was born in the white house shown in the video, but have no memories of it as we left when I was very young. I hadn’t seen the footage before so it was an emotional experience to watch and edit but I was excited and inspired to use it alongside ‘Daddy’s Gone’ as it felt so relevant.

It was a few years back when I was on tour in Austin, Texas that I got the call to say my Dad had passed away. I remember keeping this news to myself and quietly shedding some tears whilst trying to figure out my emotions. It was a strange feeling, I didn’t know my Dad and had conflicting thoughts about him. It took me a while to understand how I felt but eventually it came out in this song. Often song-writing is a way for me to understand myself, it’s the best way for me to articulate how I’m feeling and that was definitely the case with ‘Daddy’s Gone’. Sometimes you can feel vulnerable sharing such personal words but I hope that anyone who’s had a similar experience can relate and find comfort in knowing that they’re not alone.”

“Daddy’s Gone” comes from Macve’s forthcoming studio album Not The Girl, which will be released on April 16 via Modern Sky. Pre-orders for the album can be made here. This is the follow-up to Macve’s 2017 debut album Golden Eagle.

Macve has also announced a pair of live performances inside Con Club in Lewes, England on May 8. Tickets for their matinee and evening performances will go on sale this week.
