Five acts to catch at Baton Rouge Improv Festival 2021

The Baton Rouge Improv Festival will deliver some of the best improv acts from the region and beyond. From May 12 through May 16, people from all over can witness some exciting performances from the comfort of their home. We take a look at five acts worth checking out at this four-day event. The Baton Rouge Improv Fest will be livestreamed on their website. Donations to the festival can be made here.

Ratas de Dos Patas

When: Thursday, May 13 (8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST), Saturday, May 15 (10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. EST)

Hailing from Chicago, Ratas de Dos Patas have been turning heads in the region with performances at Femprovisor Fest and Melanin Festival. For the Baton Rouge Improv Festival, they’re paying homage to Sabado Gigante with Ratas Gigante, and viewers will have two chances to catch their performance this weekend.

No Lye Comedy

When: Thursday, May 13 (10:30 p.m. EST/7:30 p.m. EST)

New Orleans’ No Lye Comedy is a collective of black femme comedians, who have been making their presence felt with performances at the New Orleans InFringe Fest and the Dallas Comedy Festival. Whether they’re performing improv or discussing matters on their podcast, No Lye Comedy will have everyone in stitches.

Family Dinner

When: Thursday, May 13 (11 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST)

Baton Rouge darlings Family Dinner have been wowing audiences for almost 20 years. The troupe, however, is best known for their movie spoofs, which finds them reworking classic films such as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Dirty Dancing.

Puppet Improv Kid Time!

When: Saturday, May 15 (4 p.m. EST/1 p.m. PST)

Puppet Improv Kid Time will bring something different to the table. Some of the best puppet performers out there will join Brian Jones (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, Brian Henson's Puppet Up!) for an event made for the whole family.

Impro Theatre’s Pulp Playhouse

When: Sunday, May 16 (8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. EST)

Impro Theatre will bring their Pulp Playhouse to Baton Rouge Improv Festival for a special performance. Directed by Brian Lohmann, the Pulp Playhouse dives into the wild stories found in pulp novels with help from the Impro LAB Ensemble.
