Five predictions for WWE SummerSlam 2023 in Detroit

It’s been 20 years since SummerSlam was last held in Michigan, and today (August 5), the 2023 installment returns to the state for a night of action at Detroit’s Ford Field. Our predictions for the night’s activities can be found below. SummerSlam begins at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST with a kickoff show at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST. The event will stream live on Peacock. A handful of tickets can still be purchased on Ticketmaster here.

Ronda Rousey defeats Shayna Baszler

Rousey vs Baszler could've been an explosive match at WrestleMania, but both competitors will deliver big time in Detroit. With rumors of Rousey's contract ending soon, this could lead to Baszler gaining an impressive win over the UFC Hall of Famer. While Baszler has seen success on the main roster in the tag team division, they haven't been a major force in the singles division. A win over Rousey will give Baszler a plethora of momentum toward a future Women's World Championship match.

Gunther vs Drew McIntyre = big meaty men slapping meat

Gunther and Drew McIntyre will certainly be a physical bout that will be as intense as their highly praised triple-threat WrestleMania match with Sheamus. Gunther won't be dropping the prestigious Intercontinental Championship just yet, so expect a win for Gunther. No matter who wins, this match will certainly be one of the most talked-about bouts of the night.

Ricochet and Logan Paul will both walk away as winners (to some degree)

After their show-stopping collision at the Royal Rumble, many people wanted to see Ricochet and Logan Paul go one-on-one. Their match at SummerSlam will surely include some flashy moves from both competitors. After having four straight losses, Paul will more than likely walk away with the W, but for Ricochet, this will be one of the biggest matches in their WWE career. Going toe to toe with Paul will help bring some new eyes to the talent, who has been underutilized for quite some time.

Rollins keeps the World Heavyweight Championship

Seven years after winning and then dropping the Universal Championship, Finn Balor will get their revenge on Seth Rollins. While this will be a personal fight, one changing factor for this match is Damien Priest. With the Money In The Bank briefcase, Priest could strike and use it on Rollins if they retain or use it on their fellow Judgment Day member if they win. Rollins' current World Heavyweight Championship run isn't going to end this quickly, so expect them to walk away still the champ and expect more tension between Priest and Balor.

Roman Reigns will finally be dethroned

With so much on the line, Roman vs Jey will easily be the biggest SummerSlam main event in years. The absence of Jimmy Uso, however, leads to several questions. Will they come back at the PPV to aid Jey or shockingly betray them? Our money is on Jey to finally take down Roman and become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and the new Tribal Chief. This entire Bloodline storyline began with Jey and Roman, so it needs to end with them.
