Five events to catch at Asheville Fringe Arts Festival 2021

Since launching in 2003, the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival has seen groups from all over showcasing their craft. While COVID has forced everyone indoors, the festival is going virtual with a slew of talent showing their performances from January 21 through January 24. If you're looking for your new, we picked five shows you should check out.

While you can purchase individual tickets for each show, you can save money here with the Three-Show Pass or the 2021 Freak Pass, which allows you see up to 12 shows (one show per time slot). You can donate to the event here.

Basket Case - The Musical - Thursday, January 21 - 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST (buy tickets here)

Basket Case - The Musical, which was created by Aversion Media Productions, gives a unique spin on the 1982 horror film of the same name. With its adult themes, this viewing is suitable for people ages 18 and over. You can catch the musical’s trailer below. Another screening will take place on Saturday, January 23 at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST.

When Your Love Sets You On Fire - Thursday, January 21 - 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST (buy tickets here)

If you're looking for some puppetry, When Your Love Sets You On Fire is right up your alley. The program finds two puppets uncovering the shocking real-life murder case of Michael and Bridget Cleary. The program is the brainchild of The Winding Sheet Outfit, who earned Golden Lanyard Awards at the 2019 Minnesota Fringe Festival. Another screening will arrive on January 23rd at 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST.

Still Into You - Friday, January 22 - 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST (buy tickets here)

Dating game shows have always been a nightmare, but this one can be completely fatal. In Still Into You, Lenny must do some horrifying things while being a contestant on the deadliest dating show in town. The program was created by The Cardboard Sea, who won an Asheville Fringe Arts Festival award for their play Centrifuge last year. Another screening will happen on January 23rd at 7 p.m. EST/ 4 p.m. PST.

The Virus Women - Friday, January 22 - 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST (buy tickets here)

2020 was a hard year for everyone, and Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre will bring one of the most glorious performances with The Virus Women. Seven women will share their personal stories from the last year through remarkable dance solos. Another airing will go down on January 23rd at 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST.

Kaleidoscopic Bone House - Friday, January 22 - 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST (buy tickets here)

Brooklyn's Cookie Tongue will bring their brand of freak folk with Kaleidoscopic Bone House. Founded in 2011, the musical act has performed all over the United States and Europe. The duo recently had their short film Fae Rite Serum selected as part of Les Femmes Underground International Film Festival 2021. Last year, Cookie Tongue released their studio album Dream Seed Ceremony.
