Five acts to catch at Oblivion Access Festival 2022

Oblivion Access Festival makes its grand return to select venues across Austin, Texas this weekend. In addition to the usual metal offering, this festival will expand with more hip hop, electronic, and hardcore acts being thrown in the mix. These are five acts worth catching at the four-day music festival, which takes place from Thursday, May 12 through Sunday, May 15. More information on Oblivion Access Festival can be found here.

Mykki Blanco

Since their 2012 debut EP Mykki Blanco & the Mutant Angels, hip hop artist Mykki Blanco found themselves collaborating with acts such as Teyana Taylor, Basement Jaxx, and Charli XCX. Last year, Blanco unveiled their sophomore studio album Broken Hearts and Beauty Sleep. The artist will perform at Mohawk on Friday, May 13 from 10:15 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Drain

Santa Cruz hardcore punk outfit Drain have been igniting moshpits with performances alongside Higher Power, Gulch, and Terror. The band teamed up with beloved hardcore label Revelation Records for their 2020 debut album California Cursed, which was produced by Taylor Young (Twitching Tongues, Nails, Code Orange), and they’re set to unveil their new studio album soon on Epitaph Records. Drain will perform at the outdoor stage at The Belmont on Saturday, May 14 from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Midwife

Multi-instrumentalist Madeline Johnston b.k.a. Midwife has been unveiling their brand of experimental pop on the road with acts such as Deafheaven and Nothing. Midwife is currently on the road with The Body supporting their latest studio album Luminol, which is out on The Flenser. You can catch Midwife at the indoor stage at The Belmont on Friday, May 13 from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

MVTANT

Texas industrial act MVTANT has had a busy 2022 so far with an appearance at SXSW followed by a trek across Europe supporting Author & Punisher. The act has been gaining a plethora of fans following the release of their Gore and Mirrorshade EPs. MVTANT will perform at the outdoor stage at the Empire Control Room & Garage on Sunday, May 15 from 6 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Whether it's their solo material or their band Exploded View, journalist-turned-musician Anika has been making their voice heard wherever they go. Last year, the artist unveiled the long-awaited follow-up to their 2010 self-titled debut album with Change. Following their festival appearance, Anika will embark on a headlining tour across the country. Anika will perform at the outdoor stage at the Empire Control Room & Garage on Saturday, May 14 from 9:15 p.m. to 10 p.m.
