Crunchyroll collaborates with Sony Music to add concerts and music videos on service
Crunchyroll has been the home of anime since its inception. Now, it’s expanding to showcase fantastic music artists in the anime world.
Announced at The Crunchyroll Anime Awards today, the service is teaming up with Sony Music Entertainment to bring full-length concerts and music videos to its service from artists such as ClariS, LiSA, and Aimer. An announcement trailer can be seen below. Crunchyroll subscribers can head here to check out the new music section.
Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer for Crunchyroll said this about the addition of music to the service:
“Crunchyroll is always looking for ways to add more value for its fans, and we know that anime and music have always been intrinsically connected art forms. From the early years of anime, music artists have worked closely with the anime producers to write lyrics and meaningfully integrate the music into the story. Crunchyroll wants to replicate that same synergy for our fans.”
While anime in music has always found its way onto the charts in Japan, last year saw two songs make their way onto charts in North America. "The Rumbling" from alternative metal band SiM, which is the theme for Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2, topped the U.S. Hot Hard Rock Songs chart while peaking at number five on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart, and number 13 on the US Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.
"Kick Back" from J-pop/rock artist Kenshi Yonezu, which is the opening theme to Chainsaw Man, peaked at number three on the World Digital Song Sales chart and number 26 on the U.S Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. In Canada, the song peaked at number 100 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart.
