Ninja Scroll will make its way to theaters in the United States this fall for its 30th anniversary.
Revealed today at Anime Expo 2024, the release is a collaboration between Iconic Events Releasing and AMC Networks’ anime streaming service HIDIVE. The film will arrive in 500 U.S. theaters on September 11, 12 & 15 in both subbed and dubbed formats. Advanced tickets for the theatrical release will go on sale to the general public soon here. A screening of the film took place at Anime Expo on Friday. The theatrical release is part of the AX Cinema Nights 2024-2025 film schedule.
A synopsis for Ninja Scroll reads:
When Jubei saves a young ninja woman from the unthinkable, he assumes that’s the end of it. To his surprise, it’s only just the beginning. Together, the two investigate the mysterious deaths of an entire village which uncovers a conspiracy of demonic proportions! Getting closer to the truth, the demonic forces will stop at nothing to silence Jubei and his companion for good!
Released in 1993, Ninja Scroll gained the Citizen's Award at that year’s Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival, and it was a major influence on the also iconic Matrix franchise. Ninja Scroll director (and Madhouse co-founder) Yoshiaki Kawajiri would continue working on titles such as The Animatrix, Jujutsu Kaisen, Vinland Saga Season 2, and the Marvel Anime series. The film spawned the anime series Ninja Scroll: The Series, which is available to stream over on Crunchyroll right now here.
