English indie rock band Alberta Cross have delivered their cover of Sharon Van Etten’s “Every Time The Sun Comes Up” today.

Alberta Cross vocalist/guitarist Petter Ericson Stakee said this about covering the song, which can be heard here:

Sharon is such a talented songwriter and performer - and I’ve been a fan for as long as I can remember. We certainly didn’t take recording her song lightly - but we are really proud of how it came out. That said, when the song is this good, it does make things easier… Whether it was intentional or not I can’t remember, but I feel our tempo and version captures the mood of when we recorded it - the fear, seriousness and uncertainty of the world - alongside the joy and escapism of just disconnecting and having that stolen concentrated time with our loved ones. I love the self acceptance side of the song - and of course the humor.  For me, the song has become a real moment on the record.”

Stemming from Van Etten’s 2014 studio album Are We There, “Every Time The Sun Comes Up” has been featured in the TV shows Elementary and Maid.

Alberta Cross’ cover stems from the band’s forthcoming studio album Sinking Ships, which will be out on March 31 via Dark Matter / AMK. Pre-orders for the album can be made here. Sinking Ships follows the band’s 2020 studio album What Are We Frightened Of?

The band will have a record release show at London’s OMEARA on April 4 with special guests Martin Luke Brown and Alison Sudol. Tickets for the show are on sale to the general public right now here.
