Rusty Rabbit announced at Tokyo Game Show, written by Gen Urobuchi (Madoka Magica, Psycho-Pass)

A new 2.5D action side scroller title is coming from a major name in anime.

Announced at Tokyo Game Show today, Rusty Rabbit comes from the mind of writer Gen Urobuchi, who is best known for being the co-creator of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, the main writer of the Fate/Zero manga/light novel series, and a writer on the Psycho-Pass and Revenger anime series.

The game is a collaboration between Urobuchi’s company Nitroplus and NetEase Games. A concept trailer can be seen below.

Urobuchi said this about the newly announced title:

“While I have always had a great passion for the gaming industry, my work has mainly focused on creative adventures in traditional text format. I am filled with gratitude to NetEase Games for finally fulfilling my long-standing wish to create a game filled with action and adventure based on my stories. I would also like to thank all the staff who lent their expertise to make this project a reality. Our goal is for Rusty Rabbit to bear the fruits of this creative challenge, and I’m excited for my fans and gaming fans everywhere to experience this game next year. Thank you so much for your support!”

A synopsis for Rusty Rabbit reads:

Thousands of years after humans left this planet, it was rabbits who inherited it…

Stamp, an old and eccentric rabbit living on a planet abandoned by humanity, spends his days piloting his trusty mech affectionately known as “Junkster”, collecting junk throughout the ruins of the frozen world and tinkering with machines. In a stroke of bad luck, Stamp crashes down into the world’s lower levels. There he finds D-TAM; terminals for storing information. Using D-TAM, he finds info related to his missing daughter and a hidden truth about the world they live in. Thus his journey begins, digging deeper into these ruins to unfold the mysteries surrounding this world.

Rusty Rabbit is slated for a 2024 release on PlayStation 5 and PC. More information about the game can be found here.
